Can I claim compensation from a solicitor for Professional Negligence?
Yes you can. All solicitors have a legal duty to take reasonable professional care in the conduct of their clients’ cases.
So, if you have suffered losses as a result of the negligence of your solicitor you may be able to claim compensation.
It’s only right to make it clear from the outset that professional negligence cases against solicitors can be difficult. It isn’t good enough just to show that something went wrong. You will usually have to show that your solicitor behaved in a way that no reasonable solicitor would have done, and also demonstrate that you have suffered losses in excess of £10,000.

Once we have the papers, if the evidence looks promising we will come out to see you to discuss the case in detail. Very often, we will also arrange a meeting with a specialist barrister at that stage.
Claims against solicitors are governed by a pre-action protocol, which encourages all sides to settle the dispute without court proceedings if possible. Using that protocol, we can usually find out whether or not the solicitor will accept responsibility within a few months of our initial discussions, and we very often settle our clients’ cases without having to go to court.
